Your Invite to the Discovery Centre Launch Event

March 7, 2017

University District is ready to welcome the curious to Northwest Calgary.

This month sees the opening of University District’s newest source of inspiration and information: The Discovery Centre.

On March 11, the centre opens its doors to the public and ushers in a new chapter in University District’s story. The first physical meeting place and experiential learning space for the community welcomes all.

Discovery awaits.

Open concept and free flowing, the Discovery Centre lures the outside in through its big bright windows. Once inside, the future comes to life with light cast on the big plans and current information about everything University District.  The space inside the Discovery Centre embodies the spirit of U/D. Find built-in sustainability features like the centre’s harvested wood sourced from local nurseries and salvaged trees repurposed from U/D’s surrounding area.  Beyond the natural materials, the space incorporates interactive technology into the forefront of its design. The centrepoint? An interactive model table poised to educate, entertain and inspire visitors on everything University District has to offer — from natural spaces to meeting places.

The Discovery Centre’s public launch promises to be as charming and curious as the space itself.

Discovery Centre Opening Weekend Details:
When: March 11 and 12, 2017
Time: 12 – 5 p.m.
Where: 4410 University Ave NW (just North of the Children’s Hospital)
Parking is available at the Discovery Centre with additional parking located in lot 57.

What’s in store for the opening? Enjoy:

  • Balloon art installations and entertainment
  • Lessons in how to be a friend to the environment
  • Terrarium building workshops
  • Live music from local musicians
  • Local food trucks

All the while, you will meet future neighbours, friends and residents of all ages. This is a landmark day to get to know U/D through interactive learning, food, music and fun. What’s more is the chance to meet the people behind the scenes and the scenery, as well as those drawn to its future promise — one of connectivity, inspired living and continued discovery of the Northwest.

A host of surprises await visitors at U/D’s Discovery Centre. We can’t wait to share them with you. For more information about us, and to keep current with invitations and information about our upcoming community programming, join our mailing list here.
