University of Calgary Properties Group (UCPG) was originally established in 2011 as West Campus Development Trust, created by the University of Calgary to plan and deliver what would become University District.
What began as a focused initiative to develop University District has evolved into a mission-driven development organization with a growing portfolio and a long-term commitment to thoughtful, people-first community building.
Unlike traditional developments, the land in University District is owned by the University of Calgary and is operated through a leasehold land model. That means higher standards, more consistency, and a commitment to keeping the original vision intact as the community grows, so what’s promised at the beginning still holds true in the future.

The Master Plan is rooted in four pillars that are aligned with our vision for the community and connected to the neighbours and neighbourhoods we serve.

Built on University of Calgary owned land and developed in close partnership with representatives from the University of Calgary and the community.
Alberta’s first LEED-ND Platinum community, designed through a collaborative, people-first process that applies the best ideas in urban design and the needs of the community.
Connected to three LRT stations, with over 50 shops and services, 40 acres of greenspace, and a network of feet-first pathways.
Approximately 200-acres of land that blends residential, retail, commercial and open spaces creating a “city” within a city.
University District follows the lead of places like Wesbrook Village at UBC and UniverCity at SFU, where university involvement helps neighbourhoods grow with intention and stability.
Closer to home, long-standing leasehold models in Jasper, Banff, and Redwood Meadows show how leaseholds support high-quality development, protect what matters, and serve both residents and commercial opportunites over time.

University District is an urban mixed-use community, meaning everything you need is built right in. We work with award-winning builders to offer a range of homes, from condos and townhomes to apartment rentals and senior living.

We have multiple condo styles and buildings, all with high-quality finishes, amenities, and walkable access to dining, parks, and transit.

Multi-level homes with private entrances and attached garages, ideal for those moving on from single-family living who still wanting that sense of home.

Professionally managed apartment rentals with premium finishes and on-site amenities nestled inside our very walkable community. Apartment rentals give you easy access to dining, transit, parks, and daily essentials, without the responsibilities and costs that come with ownership.

Whether you’re looking to live independently or need assisted living, University District lets you stay close to what you love and live alongside every generation. Thoughtfully designed senior living options and an age-in-place philosophy support you through every chapter.

The development has a long-term vision, with implementation taking place over the next 20 years. Completion is anticipated in 2034.
The street names honour the 13 University of Calgary Chancellors who have served as the bridge between the City of Calgary and the University since it was founded in 1966.
The land is not for purchase. At University District, land is under a leasehold model in partnership with the University of Calgary. Learn more about leasehold at University District.
