UNIVERSITY DISTRICT Open Spaces
and Parks

Enjoy The Outdoors In The Inner-City

Less time driving to find nature means making the most of your down time. Play in the parks speckled throughout the Univeristy District community. Fill your water-loving cup with the shimmering ponds and fountains. Plan the peaks you’ll seek while staring across at the scenery of the Rockies to the west. Your every-season passionate self will be satisfied year-round; snowshoe the green spine in winter, picnic in the spring, cruise the trails in the summer and fall.

There’s limitless ways to get connected to nature when you call University District home.

For The Love Of (Urban) Open Spaces

Have your urban community dreams and your spacious cravings come true. U/D is the ideal community that makes getting to the grocery store as easy as getting outside. Along with the beautiful Central Commons Park and South Pond, University District will include:

Pathways + Perspectives

Designed as a walking and cycling community, neighbourhoods and parks are connected by a 12km path system that makes getting moving easy and fun. Whether you’re watching your toddler take their first steps or out for your daily stroll, pathways take you beyond the community limits into the deep beauty of the Bow River valley. And a tip: it’s worth stopping at the lookout parks to take it all in.

Double Barks…er, Parks.

We love those furry four-legged companions as much as you do – so creating dedicated playful spaces for them was a non-negotiable. Let your pups play in two of the best urban dog parks in Calgary, right in the heart of the community. And all those pathways and stunning views? Your pooches will love exploring the many trails that connect you with all the community has to offer.

The Park At
The Heart Of U/D

University District’s Central Commons Park is the grand connector of the community. Located right next to Main Street, it’s the perfect spot to cozy up under a tree to enjoy a fresh baked croissant and steaming Americano from a nearby cafe, or sit on a blanket and watch the leaves turn all colours and drop from the trees. The three acres of open, unencumbered green splendour will play host to festivals, performances, and undoubtedly be the home of more than a couple snow angels and stacked snow-people when the barometer drops.

Find Your Flow

For some, it’s the mountains that connect them to nature. For others, it’s water. U/D offers ways for water-lovers to get their fill in an urban community with ponds and fountains throughout the community. That’s a win-win.

With the North and the South ponds combined, there are over 12 acres of naturalized oasis to enjoy. With the North pond acting as an attractive gateway to pedestrians and cyclists accessing the pathways, and the South pond acting as a source of beauty and sustainability for all to enjoy, the ponds create a serene environment and a stunning background for the community to get outside, get active, and connect.
