The convenience of University District right next door to UCalgary means easy access to a variety of amenities, recreation and services within walking distance of campus. We’ve rounded up some of the best things in U/D to explore!

Study Spots in U/D 

Find your perfect study spot in University District. Whether it’s the hustle and bustle of a cafe or the calming tranquility of nature, U/D has a variety of study spots to suit your needs.

Experience the pour-over bar or grab a coffee slushie, exclusive to Monogram Coffee’s University District location. 

Take a much needed break from the office or de-stress from a test or in the natural areas of U/D. Designed as a walking and cycling community, the neighborhood and parks are connected by a 12 km path system that takes you into the deep beauty of the Bow River valley. 

Parks and ponds of U/D that you don’t want to miss: 

  • North Pond: Serving as a space for inspiration, this green space and pond feature stunning views. 
  • Central Commons Park: Aimed at sparking connection, this park is always filled with excitement. From fitness classes to summer night markets and a skating rink in the winter months, this is a perfect place to de-stress. 
  • South Pond: A perfect place for a quiet escape, this pond is filled with beauty and natural views. This pond is great for a quiet spot to unwind, or to simply take in the scenery. 

U/D Student Discounts

U/D is proudly home to more than 30 retailers offering discounts on everything from food to workout classes. Students can save with the U/D Student Discount, available at select retailers with valid photo student ID. Be on the lookout for the U/D Student Discount branding on exterior windows and tills at participating retailers.

Fitness at U/D 

Located on Retail Main Street in U/D, Orangetheory Fitness offers certified personal trainers, science-backed workouts tailored to you and real-time results that you can track. Classes include rowing, cardio and strength training. Using their OTbeat technology you can measure your heart rate and performance data which you can view on in-studio monitors and on their app.

An added bonus with the U/D Student Discount, students can receive $10 off any membership rate. Not ready to commit to a membership? Try out Orangetheory and enjoy first class free!

At YYC Cycle their mission is to create a safe and inclusive fitness experience for every body. YYC Cycle combines a positive and non-intimidating environment with a highly effective workout and a trained team of Motivators to help you achieve your physical and mental health goals. 

Students can enjoy 10% off their YYC Cycle classes by showing a valid student ID. If you’re new to YYC Cycle their 7-Day Trial Pass for $25 is a great option. 

Coming in 2024 to University District is Lagree YYC. Evolved from Pilates, the Lagree Method focuses on slow and controlled movements which allows individuals with pre-existing injuries to exercise while carefully rehabilitating the body. With a focus on an intense, strength training, muscle endurance, low impact, 45-minute full-body workout that is performed on a unique piece of equipment – the Megaformer. 

If you’re looking to reach your fall fitness goals or find a fun way to stay active during the semester, University District has you covered. With multiple fitness retailers and an expansive outdoor pathway system, U/D has several options to fit your lifestyle. 

Connected Community
