New at U/D

Over the past five years, University District has evolved from a Master Plan to a best-selling community. In the past year, we have welcomed new retailers, launched new developments, and opened the highly anticipated Alt Hotel. In case you’ve missed anything, here is a recap of what we’ve been up to!

New Retailers:

We recently announced some exciting retail additions joining the community. Some local Calgary favourites in dining, fitness and services are set to open up on the Retail Main Street in 2024! Here is a list of the new retailers that we can’t wait to welcome to U/D:

UNA Pizza + Wine is a beloved pizza restaurant founded in 2010. UNA serves California-inspired pizza and side dishes using ingredient-focused recipes with almost every element made in-house. The new UNA location in U/D is anticipated to offer a menu similar to its other Calgary locations, with possibly some new twists to its diverse cocktail offering.

Native Tongues offers authentic Mexican cuisine at an affordable price. Founded in 2015, Native Tongues has two existing, beloved locations in Calgary. One is located in the Beltline neighbourhood and the most recent to open located in Britannia Plaza.

Seed N Salt is a quick service café providing healthy and delicious food choices. Co-owners Melodie-Joy Miller and Heather Merrett prioritize health and nutrition with their wide selection of bowls, salads, breakfasts, café drinks, smoothies, craft beer and regional wines, all created with fresh ingredients.

Lagree YYC, voted Top Fitness Center in Calgary for five consecutive years, is a locally owned boutique fitness studio offering a unique workout evolved out of Pilates. The patented Lagree Method is an intense, low impact, full body workout suitable for all fitness levels. The Lagree Method incorporates slow and controlled movements to build muscle strength, muscle endurance, and flexibility using a patented machine called The Megaformer.

Easy Blink Optometry are experts in specialty eye condition treatments and comprehensive eye care. They proudly offer luxurious eyewear collections. Discover high-end, designer frames blending style, exclusivity and craftsmanship. This unique range caters to diverse aesthetic preferences, offering a fashionable touch to everyday vision needs.

Shoppers Drug Mart, Canada’s leading health, beauty and convenience retailer, is coming to U/D! Shoppers will carry everything U/D residents need from beauty products, cleaning supplies, pharmaceuticals and more!

New Office Tenants:

Did you know that University District has customizable office space available for lease? Currently, the remaining office space above Central Block is being leased and some amazing organizations have already moved in. Thinking U/D could be the home for your office? Reach out for more information on leasing opportunities. Here is a rundown of the newest office tenants to call U/D home:

Omega 365 is a software company that caters to clients in the oil, gas, energy, renewables, mining, utilities, healthcare and infrastructure sectors throughout Canada, providing both new implementation and ongoing project support for their project management tools.

Foothills Primary Clinic is a locally owned and operated family medicine clinic. Andrew Eddy of Foothills Primary Care says, “we will be offering traditional family-based medicine and continuity of care to our patient population in our new home in University District. We’re a locally owned and operated family medicine clinic and we’re excited to serve the northwest with a new and improved space.”

Aspire Medical will offer healthcare services with specially trained physicians enhancing their scope of practice. Dr. Zabal, a specialist in care for the elderly, will be offering a comprehensive family practice, specialized geriatric care, weight management and women’s health to patients in the NW and beyond.

Alt Hotel:

The Alt Hotel is officially open! This is the third Germain Hotels property in Calgary, in addition to the Le Germain Hotel in downtown Calgary and Alt Hotel Calgary East Village.

Known for its eco-friendly comfort and sleek urban signature, the Alt Hotel is designed with guests in mind. The hotel will feature a full-service coffee shop and restaurant. It boasts 155 guest rooms, including 16 accessible rooms,  set across 15 storeys, in addition to six meeting rooms and 63 underground parking stalls.

New Residential Offerings:

We’ve also announced new residential projects and can’t wait to welcome more residents to the community. Some of the newest additions include:

Autumn by Homes by Avi, located at University Avenue and McCaig Street NW, the six-storey condominium project offers 162 residential units including studio, one- and two-bedroom units set atop the Retail Main Street.

Autumn offers buyers a combination of comfort, convenience and urban condo living in the centre of University District. In addition to 18 different floorplan options, the building includes amenities such as a sixth-floor owners’ terrace featuring outdoor BBQs, fire tables, community garden, an indoor amenity room, storage units on every floor, heated underground parking with bike storage, A/C in every unit, a bike washing station, co-work/entertainment lounge, visitor parking and more.

Block 15 by Gracorp Properties in partnership with Harrison Street, has broken ground. Block 15 is a purpose-built rental building and will be the largest building in University District to date. Offering 303 rental units in an eight-story mid-rise and 16-story tower connected by a common podium and 2.5 floors of secure, underground, heated parking.
