U/D Block Party
The U/D Block Party is back for its third year, and it’s going to be better than ever! The block party is happening September 17, 2023, from 1-4 pm, with the fun all along University Avenue through to Staples. The event is free for everyone to enjoy the local musicians, activities, and fantastic retailers of U/D!
Returning to the U/D Block Party is Edmonton’s premier brass party band, The Brasstactics! Playing funky throwbacks from the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, and ‘00s, their electric energy is sure to get you grooving. The Brasstactics will be roaming Retail Main Street throughout the party serving up your favourite tunes!
You can now follow the Brasstactics on Spotify where they have recently released their cover of “Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish.
The Brasstactitcs is a New Orleans-style brass band made up of ten talented musicians. They describe their music as, “a crash course in human culture,” playing everything from AC/DC to Dr. Dre.
The U/D Block Party will feature a plethora of activities for kids! Activities include:
University District is proudly home to over 30 fantastic retailers who love to engage with the community! So, keep your eyes peeled on the Retail Main Street for special promotions and contests!
U/D Night Market
Mark your calendars! The last two Night Markets of the season are coming up Aug. 30 and Sept. 27 from 5 – 9 pm. It’s your final chance to visit the more than 30 local artisans and enjoy live music and entertainment! The U/D Night Market is put on in partnership with Marketspot and is free for all to attend.
Be sure to check out the live music and entertainment perfect for the whole family.

Visiting U/D
Even when we aren’t hosting events, U/D has lots to do! Designed with walkability top of mind the community has no shortage of parks, pathways and shopping.
Central Commons Park is placed at the heart of the community. Featuring picnic tables, pavilions, BBQs, a splash pad and more, this four-season park offers an inviting space to relax and enjoy nature. Be sure to take a stroll through Central Commons Park which pairs perfectly with a scoop of Village Ice Cream!
Soak up the last days of summer sun at one of the many patios at U/D! Enjoy refreshing drinks and fantastic food overlooking Central Commons Park at Borough Bar + Grill, The Canadian Brewhouse and The Banquet Bar.
You can enjoy all of U/D’s events, retail and amenities with our free two-hour surface lots or three-hour underground parkade! Explore the community with comfort knowing there are a variety of parking options.
