Curious Neighbours Welcomed To The Discovery Centre
April 7, 2017
March was a month of discovery for University District.
The week of March 6 saw the official openings of our much-awaited Discovery Centre, our newest destination for curious visitors to learn about everything happening in the U/D community.
For visitors, neighbours and new friends, the week’s events were the perfect way to meet U/D. We were thrilled to bring our visitors together to celebrate, and excited to welcome a host of Calgary personalities including Mayor Nenshi, Dragons’ Den’s Brett Wilson and local social media celebrity Donna McTaggart to explore our Discovery Centre.
The day of our public event on March 11 began chilly — but our guests braved the cold came prepared for some hands-on fun and learning at our newest meeting place — The Discovery Centre.
The vibe outside the Discovery Centre was relaxed —a tent made for a perfect gathering place, and featured low-slung couches, fairy lights overhead, and picnic tables lined with bouquets to welcome guests. Some of Calgary’s finest food trucks were serving up delicious creations to a host of hungry, excited attendees. Live music from local artists provided by BassBus set the scene for the day with smooth acoustic guitar and vocals, making for a friendly complement to the excited chatter of visitors.
Everything about the opening was the perfect embodiment of U/D’s spirit of fun, sustainability and curiosity. From a Brickwares Custom LEGO® art building station and terrarium making workshops, to a balloon art installation and interactive community display, the opening allowed neighbors and community members to get to know U/D in our element.
While the outside of the Discovery Centre was perfectly relaxed, the inside of the Centre was a party.
We were amazed at the sheer number of visitors we welcomed inside of our Discovery Centre—with a crush of people eager to see the show homes from Truman and Brookfield Residential. A perfect contrast — Truman’s show home was a glamorous vision in black, gold, while Brookfield’s show home the picture of bright and modern, and ready to entertain.
Both outside and in, the opening set the scene for things to come here at U/D, and we couldn’t be more thankful to all of our friends, both new and old, who came out in droves to spend time with us on this very special occasion.
