Each month as University District continues to come together we ask our team what they’re looking forward to in the month ahead. Here is what we’re excited about in Calgary for the month of December.

Calgary Hitmen Teddybear Toss Game
Scotiabank Saddledome (15 minutes drive from University District)
December 6, 2015
Tickets start at around $15 (+taxes & fees)
When the first Hitmen goal is scored on December 6, sports fans will let the bears fly onto the ice. It’s a thrilling event and all for a great cause. The Teddy Bear Toss is two decades old. Skating at Bowness Park
Bowness Park (15 minutes from University District)
FREE
We’re lucky in the NW to have Bowness Park, one of Calgary’s most beautiful natural destinations. The park is 30-hectares and includes a Teahouse and Boat House. The skating here is hard to beat, but is (like everything in our beloved city) dependant on the weather. The City of Calgary does beautiful job of lighting it up in the winter. It stays open until 11pm nightly.
If you’re short on skates, the Boat House is operated by the University of Calgary Outdoor Centre from December 15 – February 15 (Fridays, 5:30 – 8:30 p.m., Saturdays & Sundays, 10:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.). Go there to pick your rents (skates, helmets, etc.) or to polish up your personal blades with skate sharpening. MORE.
Christmas in Kensington
Kensington (10 minute drive from University District)
Weekends until December 21, from noon to 4pm. December 12 is Family Day
FREE
Every weekend until December 21, the NW community of Kensington holds ‘Christmas in Kensington’. December 12 is ‘Family Day’: shop a great mix of local stores (we’re particularly fond of the newly redesigned Crave Cupcakes featuring Monogram Coffee) with a hot beverage in hand and enjoy awesome family-friendly activities like the petting zoo (noon-3pm) and a 3pm family holiday movie at The Plaza Theatre. Plus carolers, horse-drawn wagons and more.
Here’s a tip: if you take a picture with one of your Kensington purchases and share on social media with hashtag #ShopKensignton you’ll be entered to with a $500 shopping spree – there’s one to be won every weekend. MORE.
