Fuwa Fuwa Joins U/D

Fuwa Fuwa is renowned for their soufflé pancakes which are the perfect balance between light soufflé and classic pancake. These no-knife-necessary clouds of goodness are made to order from a secret recipe that is unlike any pancake you have had before. If pancakes aren’t your style, Fuwa Fuwa’s menu has a diverse array of treats to choose from, including gluten-free options. Currently, Fuwa Fuwa in U/D exclusively offers gluten-free cheesecake and roll cakes.

With the U/D location being just the second in Calgary, we sat down with Fuwa Fuwa to learn more about this one-of-a-kind spot!

What makes Fuwa Fuwa pancakes so fluffy?

Fuwa Fuwa: “Originating from Japan, handcrafted soufflé pancakes are traditionally served at weddings and celebrations for good fortune, but have now evolved to become a treat for every occasion – from breakfast to brunch to dinner, and everything in between. What differentiates them from traditional pancakes is they are soft, bouncy and incredibly light. 

Each Fuwa Fuwa pancake begins with egg whites whipped to soft peaks. Our fluffy pancake mix is made using locally sourced milk and is free of artificial additives, essential to their airy quality. The mixture is then cooked very slowly at a low temperature for up to 20 minutes, creating a high-quality dessert.”

What else do you serve other than pancakes? 

Fuwa Fuwa: “Croffles (croissant-waffles), Waffles, Basque Burnt Cheesecake, Macarons, Roll Cakes and Specialty Drinks.”
