Giving Back in Your Community
October 19, 2023
Whether it’s through donations or volunteering time, every effort to give back to the community makes a valuable impact. At University District, fostering strong relationships with community members and supporting local organizations is an important part of our activities. It’s an investment in the people and relationships that help create great places to live, work, visit, play and connect.
“We’re proud of our involvement with local organizations.” Says Jacqueline Tran, Manager of Communications and Marketing at U/D, “We have amazing community members who lead exceptional initiatives that we are proud to invest in.”
People-First Approach to Community Investment
At University District we take pride in our connections with various local organizations that share our commitment to making our communities stronger, happier and healthier. Here’s a closer look at some of the amazing initiatives we’ve been involved in:
I Can for Kids: For over five years, University District has supported I Can for Kids, an organization on a mission to end childhood food insecurity. Our support goes beyond financial contributions, as we’ve collaborated on seasonal U/D events to help spread awareness of their local initiatives. Even our retailers get involved! Save-On-Foods and Village Ice Cream have contributed through various initiatives from gift cards to ice cream by donation to raise funds.
Our builder and community partners also go above and beyond in the community to help make it a better place and we participated in a number of initiatives this year.
We continued our sponsorship and volunteering at charity golf tournaments including the Brenda Strafford Golf Classic, benefitting the Heart Home Network which aims to create a safe environment for women and children impacted by domestic violence and the Murietta’s golf classic in support for Safe Haven and Canmore and Area Health Care.
“All these initiatives work in parallel to our core values to create lasting impact in our community,” adds Tran.
This year, University District was also a sponsor of the Brookfield Walk/Run, benefitting HomeSpace Society and saw many of our team members sign up to participate in the run. It is important to our team to support initiatives put on by our key partners to benefit the improvement of the Calgary community.
How You Can Make a Difference
While University District is committed to giving back, we believe that true community strength lies in collective effort. From donations to time here are some ideas on ways to make a difference this year if you are able to do so:
Donations: Organizations like I Can for Kids, Ronald McDonald House and the Brenda Strafford Foundation accept monetary donations of any size to support those in need.
Volunteering: Volunteering your time can be an incredibly rewarding experience. At the Brenda Strafford Foundation, you can participate in various volunteer activities such as lending a helping hand, assisting with pet visits, sharing the joy of music or providing personal pampering to residents. Your presence and time can bring joy and comfort to those who are in need. Learn more about volunteering with the Brenda Strafford Foundation here.
Holiday Hampers: Embrace the spirit of giving this holiday season by volunteering your time and donations to the Made by Momma’s Holiday Food Hampers. Get involved and make the holidays a little brighter for our community.
For many families, the holiday season can be a stressful time financially. Providing a food hamper through organizations like Made by Momma can make a huge impact on these families during this time of year.
At University District, community development extends beyond bricks and mortar. It’s about the relationships and connections we build with people and fostering a tight-knit community with a people-centric approach. We strive to create places that enable people to flourish.
