And while it’s no secret that University District is committed to providing opportunities to remain active outside, we think it’s important for you to know that walkability isn’t the only thing the District accommodates. Bike-ability is also sewn into the very fabric of University District, which is evident by the availability of designated bike paths throughout our community.
And just like the bike paths will require regular upkeep and maintenance, so too do the bikes that utilize them. It’s important that residents keep their gear in tip-top shape before heading out for the day to ensure their fun isn’t interrupted by equipment malfunctions or avoidable delays.
BOW CYCLE KNOWS CYCLES:
Bow Cycle supported the event by generously donating their time and resources to provide free tune-ups and walk participants through some basic maintenance and equipment prep.
Marketing Director Bob Grunewald explained how taking a few extra minutes to care for your gear keeps your ride running smoothly, and ultimately prolongs its life.
TUNE-UP TIPS:
Don’t let not knowing translate into ‘not going’.
There are plenty of do-it-yourself tools available to those who want to take their bike’s performance into their own hands, but like most things in life, there really is no substitute for using a professional.
Regular check-ups with trained bike gurus like Bob not only prolongs the longevity of your ride, it will help you avoid much more critical issues like failing brakes or impeded steering ability.
When it does come time for your own upkeep, remember to keep your chain lubricated and tire pressure level where it should be. And to avoid more technical issues with gears, be careful to properly shift when biking to drastically reduce the potential wear and tear that comes with regular use.
