University of Calgary Properties Group and Truman Break Ground on Scholar

With completion anticipated for 2027, Scholar is a first-of-its-kind joint venture between University of Calgary Properties Group and builder-partner Truman.

University of Calgary Properties Group (UCPG) and Truman officially broke ground today on Scholar, the first residential development under their new joint venture partnership in University District.

Located at the southeast corner of University Avenue NW and McCaig Street NW, Scholar will feature 203 one- and two-bedroom purpose-built rental units and community-focused amenities such as a fitness centre. Additionally, Scholar will boast more than 12,000 sq. ft. of main floor retail. Completion is anticipated in 2027.

Scholar’s groundbreaking celebrates a milestone for University District as it continues to evolve into one of Calgary’s most desirable mixed-use communities offering residential, retail, dining, wellness and service options in a thoughtfully designed urban environment.

University District is now home to more than 3,500 residents, with over 13,000 expected to call the community home upon completion over the next decade. Many new retailers have also opened shop over the past 12 months, totaling more than 50 businesses now operating in the community.

In addition to Scholar, Truman’s residential projects under construction in University District include Academy; and completed projects include Esquire, Maple and Noble.
