University District Wins Two BILD Alberta Awards for Outstanding Community Features

Central Commons Park’s Fire Features and Outdoor Rink recognized for excellence in community design and placemaking at BILD Alberta Awards.

University of Calgary Properties Group (UCPG), the developer behind Calgary’s University District (U/D) neighbourhood, is proud to announce that it has been awarded two BILD Alberta awards in the Best Community Feature category. The accolades were received for the Fire Features and the Outdoor Rink at Central Commons Park, both celebrated for enhancing year-round community engagement and outdoor enjoyment.

The awards highlight University District’s commitment to creating vibrant, inclusive and thoughtfully designed public spaces that enrich the lives of residents and visitors alike.

Opened in December 2022, Central Commons Park is a vibrant, three-acre all-seasons destination designed to be an active hub and gathering space for the entire community. Along with its fire features and outdoor ice rink, visitors can enjoy ample seating areas, BBQs, public washrooms and a splash pad in the summer. The dog-friendly park offers something for everyone year-round, making it a standout example of thoughtful, community-focused urban design.
