The most festive nights of the year are almost here! The outdoor U/D Night Market – Holiday Edition is back, bringing twinkling lights, local vendors, live entertainment, and plenty of holiday cheer to University District. Mark your calendars for Thursday, November 27, and Thursday, December 4, from 5 to 9 PM, when Central Commons Park comes alive with the sights, sounds, and flavours of the season.

Guests glide across the outdoor ice rink, enjoying winter fun under the glow of seasonal lights.

Both evenings will feature local artisan vendors curated by Marketspot, offering everything from unique gifts to the perfect stocking stuffers. Browse the stalls for thoughtful holiday gifts or something special for yourself. The festive soundtrack for both nights will be set by live DJs, and skate rentals will be available at the Skate Hut, so everyone can join in the fun on the ice.  Please note that the rink is weather-dependent and may not be open if conditions don’t allow.

Thursday, November 27 — Tree Lighting Celebration

Twinkling lights illuminate the University District tree, creating a festive holiday spectacle.

The opening night of The U/D Night Market – Holiday Edition will feature a truly marvellous moment: the U/D Tree Lighting Ceremony. This year, the celebration reaches new heights with a stunning, choreographed fire performance that’s sure to fill you with warmth and holiday excitement. The first 300 guests will receive a special surprise to help ring in the magic. *While supplies last.

As the Calgary Stampede Showband Drumline fills the market with their infectious rhythm, follow the beat and make your way through the stalls to the tree. Let the music guide you and join in the festive energy as the holiday season officially lights up U/D.

The Ice Queen brings winter whimsy to the market, enchanting visitors with her sparkling presence.

When the music reaches its crescendo, the Ice Queen will appear, leading into the breathtaking tree lighting moment. Afterward, keep an eye out as the Ice Queen will roam the grounds, meeting guests, posing for photos and spreading her signature sparkle throughout the evening.

Thursday, December 4 – Cozy Igloo & Dazzling Figure Skaters

Guests can warm up inside the 50-foot heated igloo while enjoying crafts, hot drinks and holiday cheer.

The second night of the U/D Night Market – Holiday Edition brings a whole new wave of holiday joy. Step inside a 50-foot heated igloo, the perfect place to warm up between skating sessions and vendor browsing. Inside, enjoy free hot chocolate and a kid’s craft workshop, where little ones can make festive crafts to take home.

Holiday roaming characters will be roaming the market, spreading mischief and delight for all.

Professional figure skaters dazzle the crowd with festive, choreographed performances on the rink.

Finally, don’t miss a choreographed ice-skating performance by some of Alberta’s most talented figure skaters, including Kate Morden, Travis Trang, Amelia Meisner, and Victoria Yonemori. With their festive routines set to seasonal music, it’s a highlight that captures the magic of winter in motion.
