NW Calgary Urban Life

November 16, 2016

The landscape of Calgary has experienced great change migrating from outright boom, to a greater emphasis on getting to the core of what it means to be Calgarian – exploring its culture and character. New communities have been built, sculptures erected and countless moments, achievements and people celebrated. We’re a hardworking city that loves to come together to share in life’s moments: the things that bind us together.

There are traits the city shares across the quadrants, but there are distinctions between the quadrants and communities that make each one unique.

Keeping these things in mind, the team behind the University District community set out to evolve life in Northwest Calgary. An area already ripe with education, parks, transit and opportunity, University District set to create a fresh new vision for what the future of Calgary communities could be… built for Calgarians. It is a modern take on an inner city neighbourhood. A community within a pristine natural environment with views and access to the Rockies, the Bow River and downtown. A community highly connected by transit, central in the northwest, surrounded by jobs, convenience amenities and lifestyle activities.

As the project nears kick-off, excitement is growing for life in this Urban Northwest area of Calgary. The University District community will create over 5,000 new jobs, bringing a new level of vitality to the area. With 20,000 professional level jobs already within a three-kilometer radius of the community boundaries, residents will have many opportunities to find work within walking distance. The opportunities for people of all ages and life stages to enjoy a fulfilled life at University District are endless.

Calgary has many sprawling suburban neighbourhoods but that disconnect from the central energy can leave a community feeling disconnected. University District planners created a community plan that connected people. Connected them through daily interactions by providing all of the necessary services a population would require within walking distance. Connected them through a common vision of sustainability and a love for parks and green spaces. Connected them through a shared vision of what the future of Calgary neighbourhoods could look like.

As a community we invite you to bring your big ideas, your talents and your community spirit to celebrate and live here, in the Urban Northwest. We want contributors and participants and those who are looking to connect and build the best, forward-thinking urban community this city has ever seen. It will be like no other community built here before. Here is where we people chose to live a life out loud and the best version of themselves. Here is where we are building University District inside the Urban Northwest. Here is where we own the future.
