Fall Flavours You Need to Try

U/D’s culinary scene brings all of the fall favourites you love into one walkable street on University Avenue.

The Alley features new flavours like passion fruit orange green tea and strawberry raspberry slush, in collaboration with award-winning anime series Jujutsu Kaisen.

Analog Coffee is serving its new Harvest Moon latte, which tastes like carrot cake. Make it your own with maple whip cream or cream cheese cold foam.

U/D’s Best Spots to Watch the Season Change

When the leaves start turning, U/D’s parks and pathways are the best seat in the house. Head out for an autumn nature walk without needing to travel too far. Central Commons Park, the North and South Pond, and the pathways trailing through the community are all just steps from home. Wander along the ponds as the water mirrors the changing colours, follow the pathways as the trees turn gold and amber, or simply slow down for a relaxing afternoon of scenic walking or a seasonal picnic. It’s a proper fall escape without ever having to get in the car.

U/D’s Urban Dog Park is also the perfect place to bring your four-legged friends along for the season, with two separate fully fenced off-leash areas tucked along North Pond so small dogs can play together with a water view.

Once the air turns crisp, Central Commons Park’s fire features will keep you warm right in the heart of the community. The centerpiece is a custom-built, self-activated 50-foot-long fire feature, with four fire pits scattered throughout the park for smaller groups. Residents and visitors are invited to turn a cool night into a proper cozy hangout with friends and neighbours, all while staying warm.

Spooky Season Starts Now

Spooky season is already creeping into U/D. Staples has everything you need for home and classroom decorations, party prep and all your Halloween crafting and costume needs.

Market Wines will host a tasting event on Halloween, pairing their wide selection of their fine wines with candy. Participants in the hour long event also get 15% off wines, perfect to stock up for Halloween hosting.

Are jump scares and haunted tales your thing? Visit Cineplex VIP this month as they get into the Halloween spirit. See Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return for Practical Magic 2 on the big screen, or get into your horror-movie groove with Other Mummy.

Activity seekers can gear up for a seasonal sweat session: YYC Cycle‘s costume rides and Orangetheory Fitness’s “Hell Week” classes turn breaking a sweat into part of the celebration. Hell Week is eight days of horror-movie-themed workouts, with class names like “Walking Dead Legs,” and members who complete four of the eight earn a shirt to prove they survived.

THANKSGIVING FESTIVITIES MADE EASY IN U/D

U/D is all about connection, and the neighbourhood makes it easy to pull off a fantastic seasonal gathering with friends and family. Borough Bar + Grill is rolling out a special Thanksgiving dinner feature for anyone who’d rather leave the cooking to someone else (or just wants a night off from the kitchen). The family-style menu comes together in a dining room inspired by the five boroughs of New York, so you can trade the usual turkey-day spread for a rotisserie chicken or maple-glazed salmon instead.

If you’re hosting, Save-On-Foods has your grocery run taken care of, from the turkey down to the garnish, and Flowers & Beyond can dress up your table with fresh seasonal florals and centrepieces. However you’re celebrating, U/D has everything within a short walk, making the holiday feel effortless.

And for something a little more indulgent, CHARCUT brings its wood-fired, locally sourced menu into the fall with dishes made for slower autumn evenings. Chefs Connie DeSousa and John Jackson opened the original CHARCUT downtown back in 2010, and it was quickly named one of Canada’s best new restaurants. DeSousa herself is a Top Chef Canada season one finalist. The U/D location, tucked inside the Alt Hotel, brings seasonal vegetables to its menu of world-class steak to make every occasion special.

Ready to embrace the fall? Grab a friend, layer up, and head to U/D to explore this season’s best shops, trails and treats!
